Our Story

Shunya India was born in the Himalayas, but shaped by the world.

Founded by individuals from Uttarakhand who have travelled extensively across global landscapes and industries, our journey began with a simple observation: the world reveres beverages like wine not just for their taste, but for their deep connection to land, craft, and tradition. One of our founders, a trained sommelier, experienced this firsthand—understanding how geography, climate, and cultural wisdom come together to create something truly timeless.

We saw the same potential in our own home.

The high-altitude regions of Uttarakhand—especially Munsiyari and its surrounding border villages—share rare geographical and climatic conditions found in some of the world’s most celebrated terroirs. Yet, the native herbs and traditional knowledge of this region have remained largely undiscovered, often diluted by mass production and bulk commercialization.

Shunya India exists to change that.

We work at altitudes of 8,000 feet and above, collaborating closely with local communities—especially women farmers—who are the true custodians of this land. Our approach is rooted in preserving the authenticity of Uttarakhand while making its richness accessible to the world.

We do not believe in scaling at the cost of identity.
Instead of mass production, we focus on thoughtful, small-batch crafting—where every product retains the integrity of its origin.

At Shunya, we bridge a critical gap:
the distance between how ingredients are grown and how they are experienced.

By combining:
• Traditional Himalayan farming practices
• Scientific understanding (in collaboration with GB Pant University)
• Sensory expertise and articulation from a sommelier’s perspective
• And design-led thinking

—we create products that are both deeply rooted and globally relevant.

Our mission is simple yet profound:
to take the story of Uttarakhand, the story of the Himalayas, to the world—without losing its soul.

Shunya is not just a brand.
It is a movement towards preserving purity, celebrating origin, and redefining how the world experiences Himalayan botanicals.
